PayPulse has introduced a new feature that allows customers to top up their City of Windhoek (CoW) municipal bus cards directly via the PayPulse App and USSD, marking a significant step forward in making everyday services more accessible through digital platforms.
The new capability enables commuters to seamlessly load funds onto their bus cards anytime and anywhere using their mobile phones, whether via smartphone or USSD. By removing the need for physical top-up points, PayPulse is simplifying the commuting experience and advancing the transition toward cashless public transport.
As a first for Namibia, this market-leading innovation underscores Standard Bank’s role in pioneering banking solutions that meet evolving client needs, supporting greater convenience for daily commuters while also reinforcing PayPulse’s commitment to digital inclusion. By offering both app-based and USSD access, the solution ensures that customers across a wide range of devices and connectivity levels can benefit from the service.
“This new feature is a practical example of how digital innovation can improve everyday life,” says Burger Smit, Head of Digital and E-commerce. “By enabling commuters to top up their City of Windhoek bus cards directly from their phones, we are not only supporting cashless travel but also expanding access to convenient financial services for more Namibians.”
The user journey is simple and intuitive. On the PayPulse App, customers can select the transport top-up option, enter their bus card details, and complete the transaction in just a few steps. The USSD option (1406626#) offers a similarly straightforward experience, guiding users through the process via on-screen prompts.
The introduction of this feature reflects PayPulse’s broader focus on delivering solutions that are practical, inclusive, and aligned with the daily needs of the communities it serves, particularly those who rely on public transport.
